What is the best mobile broadband dongle?

Filed under: mobile broadband — admin @ 3:22 pm

What is the best mobile broadband dongle, network and reception, I am with three at the moment, but when I download say from steam,it takes forever, any advice would be appreciated.

in my experience, given that the dongle has strong signal reception (full bars) it all boils down to services.

HDSPA Services that support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.0 Megabits/s. Further speed increases are available with HSPA+, which provides speeds of up to 42 Mbit/s downlink and 84 Mbit/s with Release 9 of the 3GPP standards

even if you connect to 3.5MB this doesnt mean the provider will let you download at that speed also. you might find that it can get as slow as @$@%@#$% dialup modem.

Factors are in play are, service limiting download speed regardless of connection, saturation, link quality.

I suggest if you have acces to different dongles, do live test when and where you actually will use it.

my favorite is www.speedtest.net, just choose the closest server to have better test results, far away connections may result in mid location servers to cause delays.

Is mobile broadband fast enough to play online multiplayer on the latest PC games?

Filed under: mobile broadband — admin @ 3:44 am

I have mobile broadband with Vodafone and I’m buying a new laptop one specifically for gaming although I don’t know if I should get faster internet connection or not does anyone know if mobile broadband is a fast enough internet connection for gamming? I get about 6 gigs per month.

in a word ‘no’ , they market those mobile devices as mobile broadband but they are way slower than a cable/DSL modem.
you just wouldn’t have the bandwith to play modern PC games,
IMO there’s nothing ‘Broad’ about mobile broadband.
Wi-fi hotspots might be worth looking into though :)
